Jordan Hidalgo: The Filmmaker Who Makes Brand Work Feel Like Cinema

On LinkedIn his profile states that he is an Emmy nominated, award winning commercial director and creative director in New York. If it doesn’t get you an Emmy nomination, it must not have got your attention.

The changes in the job are reflected in his schedule. In one year, a director is able to work on a 15-second social spot, a multi-minute branded documentary, a music video and a short for the festival. Although the quality is similar to his own, Jordan Hidalgo portfolio shows that he’s doing everything!

He shoots a Lamborghini, a point guard, a fashion campaign, and a man living on the street with the same aim. He wants the audience to feel something. That habit of treating a car ad and a human portrait as the same job is what makes him interesting.

One director, many formats

His official bio lists Lamborghini, Lexus, FIFA, Captain Morgan, Chase, Purina, Sports Illustrated, Bleacher Report, and the New York Jets among his clients. Film databases also credit him as a producer, writer, and editor. That probably explains why his projects hang together instead of feeling stitched from parts. He has worked on E.very D.ay, Superstar, and Best Years, besides the brand campaigns.

Audiences skip ads. Jordan Hidalgo’s answer is to make the ad worth staying for: cinematic, personal, and aware of the culture it lands in.

Movement and character

He specializes in athletics, automotive, and fashion and lifestyle work, and each one asks for something different. Sport needs rhythm. Cars need precision and a sense of weight. Fashion lives on mood and confidence. Jordan Hidalgo blends the three without the result reading like a checklist.

His directing pairs documentary realism with surreal imagery. The realism makes a frame believable, and the surreal touches make it bigger than life. For a brand, that mix means looking expensive without feeling cold.

Superstar

His most popular narrative film is Superstar, a 15-minute short that was finished in 2020, and premiered at the Tallahassee Film Festival in 2021. It’s about the lead of its, Martin himself, who is a homeless person who struggles to assert himself as an individual, a society that pushes him into flattening him into a type.

The premise is plain. The feeling is not. Superstar is about dignity, and about how hard it is to stay yourself when strangers have already decided what you are. The festival, which called Jordan Hidalgo a video director, placed it in its Portraits shorts program, and audiences voted it Best Dramatic Short. It went on to screen at more than 40 festivals, a much wider stage than most independent shorts get.

Famous faces, big brands

The commercial side of his résumé includes Stephen Curry, Tony Hawk, Victor Cruz, Charles Barkley, Lil Wayne, Mark Wahlberg, and Carmelo Anthony. Curry and Cruz fit his sports work. Hawk brings skate credibility. Lil Wayne and Wahlberg bring entertainment fame, and Lamborghini and Lexus call for tightly controlled, polished imagery.

Jordan Hidalgo doesn’t seem to treat the fame or the luxury as the subject. They are doors into stories about ambition, performance, and identity. In branded work the line between an ad people put up with and one they remember is usually a specific, human detail, and that is where he puts his effort.

Recognition

He is an Emmy award-winning, commercial director and creative director in New York, according to his LinkedIn profile. If you’ve been nominated for an Emmy, then you know people and audiences took notice.

He’s been busy, as the job has evolved. In a year a director can produce a 15-second social spot, a multi-minute branded documentary, a music video and a festival short. All of these things Jordan Hidalgo can do and still make his work look like his own, in his portfolio.

Why it works

  • His films are built around people, even when a product is paying for them.
  • Sports, cars, fashion, and city life give him natural reasons to move the camera.
  • Documentary grounding keeps the work relatable, and the surreal touches make it stick.
  • He changes format without changing voice.
  • Superstar shows he cares about stories no client asked for.

What aspiring filmmakers can take from him

Versatility pays. A director who can also write, produce, and edit is useful on every set.

A personal style can survive commercial work. Jordan Hidalgo’s focus on movement, culture, and character gives his branded films a point of view you can recognize.

And the small films count. Superstar is no blockbuster, but its festival run showed that he could tell a quiet, restrained story as well as a loud one for a brand.

Where that leaves him

Jordan Hidalgo is comfortable at scale and still drawn to ordinary people’s stories. The big-brand work proves he can deliver. Superstar shows what he does when no one is making him.

As ads and cinema keep moving closer together, directors like him are likely to set the terms. His work suggests the best commercial films are beautiful, sure, but they also have a pulse.

Alison Hammond Says This Morning Scare Was a Panic Attack

By George Mensah 6 min read

Alison Hammond has told fans that her sudden exit from live television on Friday, October 2, was a panic attack and not a heart problem. The This Morning presenter, 51, left the ITV set clutching her chest an hour into the show, and an ambulance took her to hospital. Doctors checked her heart, lungs and blood, and she says every result came back clear.

She shared the news in a new Instagram video from home. “I’m home, I’m safe, and I’m feeling so much better,” she said, and she thanked the NHS staff who ran her tests. She also said she plans to rest.

What viewers saw on air

The scare happened on Friday’s live broadcast. According to the Daily Mail, Hammond had been having palpitations about an hour into the programme. Viewers saw her at the edge of the frame, clutching her chest, before co-host Dermot O’Leary guided her away from the sofa. The Press Association reported that she could also be heard breathing heavily.

The show was partway through a segment about pets, according to the Press Association. Dr Scott looked worried as he tried to carry on with the segment, and the Daily Mail reported that a loud retching sound could be heard in the background. The programme then cut to an ad break.

When it returned, O’Leary stood alone on set. He told viewers that Hammond was “feeling just a little unwell” and had to “duck out,” and he hoped she would be back soon. Later in the show he said she would not return and that he would host the rest of the programme himself.

A source told the Daily Mail at the time: “She’s gone to hospital but we think she’s OK.” The same source said: “She walked into the ambulance after leaving the studio.” ITV had not commented when the Daily Mail contacted the broadcaster. Ambulances were seen outside the ITV studios, which matches the source’s description of her leaving the building on foot.

Hammond did not come back on air that day, and O’Leary finished the broadcast by himself.

What Hammond said from hospital

Hammond updated followers on her Instagram Stories while doctors examined her. She opened by addressing the people worried about her: “Honestly I am fine first of all.” She thanked them for their messages and said she loved them. She was “getting my old ticker checked out,” she said, and she had felt “a little palpitation.” She hoped it was “just a little panic attack or something like that.”

She also apologised to viewers for leaving the show. “I would never leave a TV show but I wasn’t very well,” she said. She filmed that video in a hospital gown, and she joked that she still had her This Morning make-up on.

The all clear and what she plans to do

The later video gave the results. Hammond said the tests were clear, which meant she “had a massive panic attack on live TV.” She added a joke about the embarrassment, then turned serious. She said “it felt very real to me.” She added: “I’m really new to panic attacks so I need to learn more about it.”

She thanked This Morning colleagues and the viewers who sent messages. She singled out O’Leary: “Dermot who has just been incredible.” She called the experience “a new world to me” and said she would “take stock” and get some rest before she returns to screens.

Her two sets of updates fit together. In hospital she guessed the cause herself, saying she hoped it was a panic attack while she waited on tests. The home video gave the answer once the checks were finished. The tone stayed light in both, with jokes about her gown, her make-up and the embarrassment of it happening live.

The timeline is short. The palpitations began about an hour into the show. She left the set with O’Leary and went to hospital by ambulance. She is now at home with clear results.

A busy few weeks

Hammond has been working across two major shows. She has been promoting the return of Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off, which she presents with Noel Fielding. Nigella Lawson has joined that show as a new judge. Her other job is live: This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and streams on ITVX, and Hammond hosts the Friday edition with O’Leary, so any absence shows on screen at once.

Hammond has worked on This Morning since 2002, according to The Independent. She took over the Friday slot in 2020, after Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford left the show. She says leaving mid-show is something she would not usually do, and her 24 years on the programme back that up.

Her health routine

Hammond has spoken openly about her health in recent years. She began changing her lifestyle about five years ago, after a health warning that she was pre-diabetic. She has told Women’s Health that her mother had Type 2 diabetes and that learning of her own pre-diabetes was frightening. “I thought, ‘I have to be an adult about this’,” she said.

She started working with a personal trainer and changed her diet. She has said she once had “a childish mentality” about food, especially toffees, and now has only a couple a day. She has since added Reformer Pilates and boxing, and she posts videos of her workouts online. She says Reformer Pilates helps because she is “stiff as a board.” She keeps a sleep tracker and a speaker under her pillow that plays relaxing music. She also does a full-hour circuit class at 6.30am with Steve Hensel at Blue Zone, which she calls “a proper old-school gym.” She says she leaves the gym feeling “amazing.”

She has framed the change as a matter of age. “We’re not getting any younger, are we babes?” she told the Radio Times, adding that at some point you have to look after yourself.

How viewers reacted

Viewers voiced their concern online. One viewer wrote on X: “What on earth has happened with Alison? Hope she’s OK.” Another asked: “What just happened to Alison Hammond? Frightening.” A third wrote: “I am very worried about Alison, I hope she is OK, she’s a great presenter.”

Hammond’s Instagram updates, first from the hospital and then from home, gave those viewers direct word from her. ITV has not issued a statement in the coverage available so far, and the Daily Mail said it had contacted the broadcaster for comment.

What happens next

Hammond has posted each of her statements so far on Instagram, and viewers are most likely to see the next one there. She has not given a return date for This Morning or for any other work. She has said only that she will rest and “see you soon.” Her next appearances will show how quickly she goes back to a schedule that covers a live Friday show and a Bake Off run.

She has also said she wants to learn more about panic attacks, being new to them. For viewers who watched her leave the set, the main facts are now clear: the heart checks were normal, she is home, and she is resting.

Ben Affleck Breaks Silence After Losing Both Parents This Year

By George Mensah 4 min read

Ben Affleck has spoken publicly about the deaths of both his parents, saying the losses changed how he sees his childhood. The 54-year-old actor appeared on the premiere episode of Kerry Washington’s podcast Street You Grew Up On, released Wednesday, September 30. His father, Timothy Affleck, died in April. His mother, Chris Anne Affleck, died on June 2 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 83.

What Affleck Told Washington

Washington is Affleck’s costar from the film Animals. “My parents just died, both of them,” he told her. He said the deaths have changed how he thinks about the past. “It’s sort of a big thing, and it’s caused me to start thinking about my own childhood in ways that [have] been a little bit different,” he said.

He spoke most about his mother. “I’ve certainly learned to even more deeply appreciate my mom and really value and see what she did and what the sacrifice and commitment that she made and how complete it was,” he said.

The Letters He Found

After his mother died, Affleck discovered letters she had written before he was born. They were addressed to her own parents and showed him a side of her he had never known firsthand. In them she was a young woman living in California, weighing a career as a social worker or teacher, and traveling to Mississippi for protests. He described her as “full of life and ambition and dreams.” Ben Affleck Opens Up About Discovering His Mom’s Letters After Her Death on Kerry Washington’s New Podcast +2

“It was so interesting to me because all I knew was a person who just made me and my brother the absolute most important center of her life,” he said.

Affleck said he was “struck” by how well she balanced working and being a wholly present parent. He recalled that she finished at school around 2:30 but rarely got home before 5:30 or 6. He also said she built the same kind of close relationship with her grandchildren.

A Marriage That Made Him Sad for His Mother

Affleck also spoke about his parents’ marriage. He said it made him sad on his mother’s behalf, and described his father at that time as struggling, out of work and drinking too much. Timothy Affleck was not available to answer, and the account is Ben Affleck’s own.

How the Two Deaths Became Public

The news came out in pieces. It was revealed in July that Chris died on June 2. Affleck’s brother, Casey Affleck, 51, said in early September that their father had also died earlier this year.

Casey spoke at the Venice Film Festival while promoting his movie Company, which he co-wrote, directed and stars in. “It’s dedicated to my parents because I lost both my mom and my dad this year, and they were very important to me,” he said.

He added a note about what the film meant to him. “I really wanted to show this movie to them, and I didn’t get to. I think they would have liked it,” Casey said.

Chris Affleck’s Last Months

Chris Affleck’s Legacy obituary says doctors told her last December she had six months to live. Her final wish was to see her grandson’s high school graduation. She went to the ceremony in May and died in her sleep days later, according to the obituary.

The obituary describes her grandchildren as “the animating force of her last two decades.” Timothy and his ex-wife Chris are survived by five grandchildren: Indiana, 22, Violet, 20, Atticus, 18, Fin, 17, and Sam, 14.

A Teacher With a Harvard Degree

Chris graduated from Harvard University and worked as a public school teacher for 35 years. She retired in 2008. Affleck described her career to The Hollywood Reporter in 2012. “My mother taught public school, went to Harvard and then got her master’s there and taught fifth and sixth grade in a public school,” he said.

Her obituary says she became socially conscious early in life. It says she “made the most of an elite education while remaining skeptical of the tightly cloistered world it represented.”

That history gives Affleck’s remarks on the podcast more weight. The woman he described as a devoted teacher and parent is the same one who, in her letters, was still working out what to do with her life.

Timothy Affleck Stayed Out of the Spotlight

Timothy Affleck kept a low public profile. He appeared once on screen, in Casey’s 2010 mockumentary I’m Still Here, which starred Joaquin Phoenix. Neither son has said the date in April on which he died.

What Happens Next

Affleck’s comments on the podcast are the first public account he has given of the two losses. The episode is available now. Casey’s film Company, dedicated to their parents, is out and being promoted. The brothers have not announced a memorial or any further public tribute.
