Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are expected to marry in New York on Friday, closing out a three-year relationship between the pop star and one of the NFL’s most decorated tight ends.
Neither has confirmed wedding plans publicly. The New York Post’s Page Six reported Thursday, citing unnamed sources, that the couple had already married. Reuters could not confirm that report.
Heavy media presence and barricades around Madison Square Garden pointed to something big happening. Passersby stopped Friday morning to take photos and videos on their phones. Workers spent days this week unloading food and scenery into the Manhattan arena, which is in its longest stretch without a scheduled concert or sporting event all summer. Scaffolding wrapped in heavy black curtains blocked views of the building’s entrances, and a sign posted Thursday warned anyone entering to keep strict confidentiality.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has dropped hints that something is coming. U.S. media outlets have reported the couple plans a cocktail hour for 1,000 guests at the start of a long holiday weekend, timed to the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence from British rule. The couple’s publicist said Thursday they had donated $26 million to charities in New York and elsewhere this week.
The event lands during a stretch of brutal heat. Forecasters expect temperatures to top 100 degrees Fahrenheit, or 37.8 Celsius, testing the patience of fans hoping for a glimpse of the couple or their guests.
a “royal wedding” for american fans

Alison Walsh brought her 11-year-old daughter, a Swift fan, to the West 31st Street side of the arena to look through police barricades at a large white tent.
“When we heard this was going down, we wanted to be here. It is the closest thing to a royal wedding in the U.S.,” said Walsh, 46, who traveled from Connecticut and counts herself a fan too.
The relationship began in 2023, when Kelce tried and failed to meet Swift backstage at one of her concerts. He got her attention anyway, telling the story of his disappointment on a podcast. As the two grew closer, they showed up together at her concerts, his Kansas City Chiefs games and on “Saturday Night Live.” The relationship led to an August 2025 engagement announcement on Instagram that read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Swift has built much of her songwriting around relationship struggles and the desire for love, so the engagement set off heavy speculation among her fans, known as “Swifties,” about wedding details. Both 36 years old, the couple kept those details close.
Swift, the writer of “Love Story” and “Shake It Off,” has won 14 Grammy Awards and became a billionaire on the strength of a global concert tour. Kelce, one of the NFL’s most recognizable players, helped the Chiefs win three Super Bowls alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He also co-hosts the podcast “New Heights” with his brother.
a career built on records
Swift was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June, 20 years after her first hit single. She started in country music before becoming a pop star, and she has won four Grammy Album of the Year awards, more than any other artist. Her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” outsold every other album in its first week of release.
Kelce first tried to meet Swift after she performed at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City during her Eras Tour, a two-decade retrospective of her career. Security stopped him from getting through, and he said on his podcast he felt “a little butthurt” that he never got the chance to hand her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
Swift said the gesture won her over. She later described it on “New Heights” as reminding her of “an ’80s John Hughes movie, and he was just like, standing outside of my window with a boombox and being like, ‘I want to date you.'”
“If this guy isn’t crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,” she said she thought at the time.
In a documentary about the Eras Tour, Swift called the relationship “the most meaningful relationship I’ve ever had,” noting it started with Kelce admitting he was hurt she hadn’t wanted to meet him. She called it “the greatest surprise of my life.”
Kelce attended several Eras Tour shows and once surprised a London crowd by walking onstage in a tuxedo and top hat to carry Swift to a couch during her performance of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
Kelce described their connection in an interview with GQ magazine. “We are two fun-loving people who have the morals to appreciate everyone for who they are,” he said. “We share all those values.”
